The last week of summer break is the single best window all year to reset your home. Schedules have not locked in yet, the kids are still around to help, and everything you fix now stays fixed for months.
The entryway is where the school year lives or dies. Backpacks, shoes, permission slips and sports gear all land in the same three feet of floor. Clear it completely, wipe it down, and give every family member one labeled hook or bin. If a kid cannot reach it, it will not get used.
Desks, kitchen tables and counters where homework happens need a real clean, not a wipe. Clear everything off, degrease the surface, and put back only what belongs. A cluttered surface on day one becomes an avalanche by October.
Wash bedding, rotate mattresses, and let each child clear out clothes that no longer fit. Doing this with them rather than for them means they know where things live, which cuts morning chaos dramatically.
Change your air filters. August in North Texas means the AC has run hard for three months straight, and a loaded filter pushes dust back into every room right as allergy season ramps up.
If the week gets away from you, that is exactly what we are here for. A one-time deep clean before school starts costs less than the weekends you will spend catching up.
